A few weeks ago, I heard about Of Curses And Kisses on Twitter and knew I had to read it. It had been a couple of days since I restarted my blog after my short hiatus and I sent in a request to read this advanced copy. I was over the moon when I got an email from NetGalley saying that I had been accepted.
About the Book
Will the princess save the beast? For Princess Jaya Rao, nothing is more important than family. When the loathsome Emerson clan steps up their centuries-old feud to target Jaya’s little sister, nothing will keep Jaya from exacting her revenge. Then Jaya finds out she’ll be attending the same elite boarding school as Grey Emerson, and it feels like the opportunity of a lifetime. She knows what she must do: Make Grey fall in love with her and break his heart. But much to Jaya’s annoyance, Grey’s brooding demeanour and lupine blue eyes have drawn her in. There’s simply no way she and her sworn enemy could find their fairy-tale ending…right?
His Lordship Grey Emerson is a misanthrope. Thanks to an ancient curse by a Rao matriarch, Grey knows he’s doomed once he turns eighteen. Sequestered away in the mountains at St. Rosetta’s International Academy, he’s lived an isolated existence—until Jaya Rao bursts into his life, but he can’t shake the feeling that she’s hiding something. Something that might just have to do with the rose-shaped ruby pendant around her neck…As the stars conspire to keep them apart, Jaya and Grey grapple with questions of love, loyalty, and whether it’s possible to write your own happy ending.

Of Curses And Kisses is a diverse and contemporary retelling of one of my favourite fairytales. Sandhya Menon writes in such a wonderful way, you find it hard to put the book down. This book took me a few days to get over after I finished reading it.
Set in an elite boarding school, Of Curses And Kisses tells us the story of Princess Jaya Rao and Lord Grey Emerson. Told through the viewpoint of both Jaya and Grey, we get to see how the story unfolds from both sides. After a scandal, Jaya and her sister Isha are sent off to complete their education at St. Rosetta’s Academy. There they meet the children of other world dignitaries, each with their own set of problems and heartbreaks.
The book gave me a lot of Disney Descendants vibes and has everything that a good teen romance needs – star crossed lovers, a misunderstood “bad boy” and a lot of teen drama. The relationship that the main characters share is beautiful. You find yourself rooting for them right from the start. The sisterly bond between Isha and Jaya is perfect. The quirky relationship between Jaya and Grey makes you laugh.
Of Curses And Kisses is funny, it keeps you in splits and definitely reminds you of your high school sweetheart. It ends on such a good note that you can’t help but smile and feel happy. It leaves you feeling warm inside.
Would I recommend this book? DEFINITELY! If you love teen romance and fairytale endings then this book is for you.
