Meet The Blogger – Hope Chilinda

Last week I decided that I’m going to be featuring several Bloggers on my blog. Why? Because we are a great community and it is nice to get to know one another. Today’s Meet The Blogger features Hope Chilinda from Hope Chilinda (Shona).

Tell me a little about yourself and why did you start your blog.

My name is Hope Chilinda. I am a lifestyle blogger from Lusaka, Zambia. I am the basic 20 something-year-old. I am a daughter, a sister, an aunt and a friend.

I started my blog in December of 2017. I think I only posted one or two pieces that month. I started my blog because I finally believed in myself and my voice. I would always have great ideas in my head but with no platform to share them. I had quite a few things to say about several topics like womanhood, depression and so on. I also had ideas for short stories. I needed a platform to share these ideas. I needed my own space where I could share my thoughts and perhaps speak for someone else.

What is your blog about?

My blog is a lifestyle blog. I talk about everything. Well, almost everything. I have blog posts that fall into five categories: product reviews, short stories, interviews, woman crush series and blog. The first four are solely dedicated to their respective niches. The last one, a blog is where everything goes. In those particular categories, I write about everything from love poems, writing challenges I take part in, inspirational pieces, hair, womanhood and so on.

I am currently working on two more categories; food and travel. I am passionate about both. I love food (which is probably why I look like this 😅) and I live in Zambia, a country that is home to amazing wildlife and breath-taking attractions like the Victoria Falls. I am thrilled to be planning the launch of these two additions to the blog.

Is there anything you realised about blogging once you started? Something that you had no idea about before.

Yes. When I started blogging, I thought it was something you could do with one eye closed. I thought anyone could do it. But as I went on, I realised blogging was an art. It is something you have to learn and perfect. I have so much respect for bloggers now. There is so much work that goes into blogging. It is a job on its own. I spend hours working on my blog. There is so much that goes into creating a successful blog. I am working hard so that mine can be called just that, a successful blog.

What is your favourite and least favourite thing about blogging?

My favourite thing about blogging is it gives me a voice. What’s better than that is that other people have found their voices in mine. They feel I speak for them with some of the issues I talk about. That is my favourite thing.

My least favourite thing must be the long hours I dedicate to my blog lol. I am a perfectionist. I need everything to be just right otherwise I won’t be happy.

What goals do you have for you blog that you hope to achieve?

Firstly, I want to have a custom domain for my blog. I hope one day my blog will generate money that will enable me to purchase a domain.

Secondly, more traffic wouldn’t be such a bad idea lol

My third goal would be to establish a blog that my readers can relate to. I want my blog to be THAT blog. Fun, educational, thought-provoking, entertaining…everything!

Is there any post that you wish to feature? Can you tell us a little about it?

Oh yes. My favourite post is a short story I wrote. I titled it “still you I want’. It is about a Zambian couple that seems to have lost the spark in their relationship. They then rediscover their love for each other but they have to go through the hands of a man that is obsessed with one of them.

Apart from blogging what other hobbies do you have?

I love taking walks. I find them very relaxing. I also love trying out recipes, shopping (I’m such a girl), music, movies and pen palling.

Alright, now time for some quick questions:
